Those that are aware of the wonderful benefits to growing using grow boxes often have a difficult choice to make in terms of the lighting they use to allow their plants to grow and produce harvests. While there are several choices out there, many people are now understanding that the use of LED lighting is the best and most economical choice today. Unlike metal halide or compact fluorescent lighting, LED lighting doesn't allow massive heat build up inside the grow boxes, which means less ventilation will be needed. When less fans are required, less electricity is used, allowing for a cheaper growing process.

Less electricity is also required in order to run the LED lights as well. They do not require the huge output that other lighting does, so electric bills are made much less expensive. While it is true that they cost substantially more than other lighting to begin with, in time, they pay for themselves in terms of much lower electric bills and bigger and better crop harvests.

Led lighting works by giving plants the right color and temperature they need to allow them to grow to be as big and healthy as they possibly can be. 2200-2300 kelvin is needed by plants to attain top growth and great health. This is what LED lights give to plants, which is found on the lower end of the scale. When plants get larger and more mature, they need red spectrum lighting that can also be gotten with the use of LED lights. This lighting is what will cause plants to fruit and flower in the healthiest manner possible.

LED grow boxes are the absolute best for your upcoming need to self sustain your own fruit or vegetables. Why not go high tech and utilize our LED grow boxes stations which are full service grow boxes of the highest order.

As long as you buy LED lights that are intended for growth, you can be certain that the plants you are trying to grow will come out the way you envisioned. The LED lights that are meant for home lighting are not the same, and will not allow your plants to grow strong and healthy. When you use the right lighting in the most efficient manner possible, you will also be sure that your crops inside your grow boxes will produce gigantic harvest each and every time.

What are Hydroponics Grow Boxes?

Most people know that hydroponics is a type of gardening that takes place indoors in an environment that is controlled. There is a lighting system, the grow boxes, a way to feed the plants, and whatever plant you choose to use as well. There are three chief phases when growing with hydroponics.

The main phase of growing with hydroponics is the grow boxes themselves. This is the plant’s environment that maintains the humidity, temperature, the timing of the lights, and how often your plants are watered as well. It is also designed to control odors and protect your plants from annoying insects that would work to destroy your crops.

There are several different parts in grow boxes. Usually, grow boxes are made of an inner reflective material that helps to stop bugs and prevents mold from growing. In addition, the reflective material helps to better reflect the light inside the box, directing it back onto the plants so they can get the proper amount of sunshine no matter what time of year it is, or what the weather outside is like.

In your grow box, you also need to have the correct lighting system. Many grow boxes use lighting systems like High-pressure sodium, or metal halide light bulbs, but others use compact fluorescent or Led light bulbs. Since most of the lighting in grow boxes create a great deal of heat, and most plants do not thrive well in extreme heat, there will be fans needed as well. These fans are designed to both control the air that is inside and outside the grow boxes, and they can also push air through a carbon filter that will help reduce any smells that might be present in your environment.

The hydroponic system is another very important component to your hydroponic system; This has a hydro bucket that is used to hold the plants along with the water and nutrient mixture. There is also a watering system that usually features a water pump and timing system that allows you to automate the process, and pots usually made of mesh that keep the plants in the right place, right above the nutrient/water mix. There is also a growing medium that is designed to allow the roots to get to the water/nutrient solution.

That’s pretty much all you need to get started with hydroponics grow boxes, and have massive harvests in no time.

An Explanation of Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a science of agriculture that is turning into big business. It is a process used by individuals, farmers and even governments, and hydroponic supply companies are springing up everywhere to keep up with the demand. But what, exactly, is hydroponics? And what purpose does it serve?

Put simply, hydroponics is the growing of plants without the use of soil. The word “hydroponics” literally means “water working.” The premise behind this process is that it is actually the water that carries nutrients to the plant roots, not the soil itself; soil merely serves as an anchor for the roots. If you find an alternate anchor system and provide adequate lighting, you can grow plants by applying a nutrient-solution directly to the plant roots—hence, “water working.” It enables people grow plants virtually anywhere, without the need for soil. The methods and setups for hydroponic gardens vary greatly, but the basic idea is the same: plants are anchored by a method or substance other than soil, under proper lighting (often artificially produced by grow lights) while a water-nutrient solution is regularly provided to the roots.

Some might wonder what the point is of using hydroponics to grow things; after all, isn’t it easier just to plant seeds in the soil and water them? In some cases, yes. However, there are limitations when it comes to soil. If soil has been drained of nutrients or is contaminated, it might not be safe for growing plants. Also, outdoor soil planting is limited to the growing season and the climate. Hydroponics, while a little more complex, removes these limitations. As long as you can provide light, nutrients, and some way to hold plants in place, you can grow plants with hydroponics anywhere, and anytime—in the dead of winter, in barren places, in extended darkness, and even potentially in space.

Some mistakenly believe that hydroponic growing is artificial, or inorganic. However, in most cases hydroponically-grown produce is every bit as natural as soil-grown produce. Hydroponics does not tamper with genetics, nor does it require artificial chemicals. The process by which plants grow is the same, whether in soil or in a hydroponic tray: plants need light, water, nutrients and a root anchor. Hydroponics doesn’t change this process; it simply provides these four elements by different means. Thus, when natural nutrients are used, hydroponic growing is both organic and healthy. In fact, when the right combinations of light and nutrients are used, plants grown using hydroponics can grow even stronger and healthier, and produce more fruit, than if they were grown in soil.

Hydroponics is not a new science; there is evidence that ancient cultures used forms of hydroponics. Today, however, individuals can purchase hydroponic kits for growing herbs and vegetables in the home; some farmers run hydroponic greenhouses; and some governments are using it as a means of mass food production.

Finding Hydroponics Starter Kits

You can easily set up a hydroponics garden in your windowsill or on a porch without breaking the bank. What you need to get the ball rolling is to choose from any of the available Hydroponics starter kits.

To find a hydroponics starter kit, you just need to let your fingers do the walking through the internet. An internet search on google for example nets 104,000 responses to the term “hydroponic starter kits”.

When you are searching for these starter kits to get your hydroponic garden off the ground, be careful to make sure your kit is sold in the US. Many of the starter kits available on the net are listed in GBP, (Great Brittan Pounds) not US Dollars. This is fine if you happen to be in the UK, but you might have to figure the conversion, and if the company is willing to ship across the pond, you will likely pay a premium.

Using a starter kit is a great way to ease into hydroponic farming. It’s also ideal if you simply don’t have the available space for anything larger.

Beginners do well to start a venture like this in a smaller way. Once you get your feet wet, so to speak, then you can always expand. Some people will start out with a small kit like the ones mentioned above, and might expand the garage, or a shed. There are even people who will build a greenhouse with the express purpose of hydroponic farming.

However, when starting out, it is really best to keep things small. To wit, hydroponics starter kits.

Make certain that the kit you purchase has everything you need to get kicked off, especially the nutrient solution. Many times the solution will be in packets of powder you will have to mix, but they should be included. Some kits will not include the grow lights, so you may have to buy them separately.

Finally, before you rush out and grab your choice of hydroponic starter kits, give some thought as to where you want to locate it. This needs to be a light-tight place (a closet or a grow tent will work) so that when you get to the flowing phase of growth you can have 12 hours of complete darkness on a daily basis. Secondly, you need to locate your starter kit in a place where it can drain. This is important, as you will need to replace the water in the reservoir every two weeks or so and having to scoop out the water, bucket by bucket is a tiring process that could easily dampen your enthusiasm early.
